Great food. Loved the service and ambience. Yellow dhal was delicious (off menu). Wouldn't necessarily order the aloo gobi or asparagus again but I definitely would go back and try more of the vegan dishes.
I dined at this restaurant about two years ago with my son and so decided to check out their Executive Lunch today by myself. A little reluctant at first I was thrilled that I did. Lunch is rather quiet but the ambience and service is very good. The lunch is reasonably priced at $35 and includes an appetizer, two entree choices that come with seasonal vegetables, rice and naan, and a dessert. The complimentary Aloo Tikki appetizer (if I have that correctly) was a wonderful potato 'tart' with a lively cilantro pepper sauce. The salmon was moist and the mustard greens (my two entree selections) were wonderful. The seasonal vegetables and rice were bland but nicely presented. The naan was perfect. The creamy dessert with shredded filo and pistachos was a nice ending. I would have had coffee with the dessert but the one delay in service was that I was not asked before or when the dessert was served. A faux pas for sure. I'm heading back to the west coast, but I encourage others to stop in!
Tamarind Tribeca stands out as a beacon of authentic Indian fine dining in Manhattan's Financial District. Ever since it earned a Michelin star in 2012, this restaurant has been delighting guests with its exquisite cuisine, genuine flavors, and exceptional hospitality. Though it no longer holds a Michelin star, its charm remains undiminished. Having visited Tamarind Tribeca numerous times over the past five years, and frequently ordering takeout, I can attest to its consistent quality. Their Dal Makhani offers the most authentic taste I've found in Manhattan. The Palak Chaat and Vegetable Samosas are excellent options to start with. The chicken in the Chicken Tikka Masala is tender and expertly cooked, while the variety of Mutton dishes provides a unique and memorable dining experience. Overall, Tamarind Tribeca has always provided me with a delightful dining experience, and I highly recommend it.
My friend chose this spot to catch up while I was visiting NYC. Tamarind is gorgeous throughout with excellent service. For drinks, I ordered a tamarind margarita and my friend had a Monsoon, and a green mocktail. The tamarind flavor in my drink was strong, so I was super happy about that. We were all offered a cheese and tomato based appetizer which was quite delicious. For mains, my friend ordered the nalli gosht with lemon rice, and I ordered the dal makhani with basmati rice. The flavors were impeccable and the portion was big enough for me to take home. The ambiance is classy and elegant, the spot was busy but not obnoxiously loud. I highly recommend it
Tamarind is wonderful. One of my top favorite Indian restaurants in the city. The space feels like an elegant living room. Big booths, high ceilings, romantic lights. Really good service too. My favorite dishes: Nizami keema (minced lamb), paalak chaat (crispy spinach), tamarind rice (order this!!!), Milagu Curry (lamb curry), Chicken Korma, Goan fish curry
I'm so mad it took me so long to try this place!! The service was great, ambience was very nice and the food was sooooo darn good! Did an early dinner here on a rainy day in the city. Upon arrival, my party and I were greeted at the front door and umbrellas were placed in a plastic sleeve.. Very much appreciated. We were seated and the dining experience began. Our waiter, was Sudan was extremely professional, helpful and so nice and he did not skip a beat. Started with an appetizer - Chili Crab Cake. Plenty for a table of 3. The cake was loaded with crab which I can get jiggy with. SOoooo soo flavorful and delicious. For my main, I decided on the CHICKEN BIRYANI and decided to make it medium spicy and Garlic Naan! Y'all... I could not stop eating it. The spices were so rich. It was truly delicious As we were leaving, I noticed that the guest that came in after us coats were being checked. I didn't give a 5 star b/c as I mentioned earlier in my review that it was a rainy day. Our coats were pretty damp and I would've appreciated ours to be checked instead of cramped in the corner of our seating area. All in all, I recommend and will be back!
This review is for their special lunch and when we visited, it featured the Kashmir Menu. the elegant Indian restaurant located in TriBeCa (10 mins walk from WTC). we missed Restaurant Week but nevertheless, we had an amazing experience here. The decor is spectacular, the moment you enter, you encounter a bar area, with very high ceilings, modern and very elegant, not at all over the top. it seats 150+ people on two levels, the main dining room and the mezzanine. It was our anniversary, so they offered us a corner booth. Here is a booth in which to sit, quiet and slightly removed from the bustle of the rest of the room, separated from others by a sheer curtain. by the way, it is a recipient of a prestigious Michelin star in the Flatiron section of Manhattan, the Tamarind Tribeca, now at its new home is the definitive restaurant where one can experience Indian Cuisine in its purest form with a contemporary touch. We settled and then gave a glance at the Kashmir menu and ordered- * Gushtaba- two big balls of ground lamb with spices... though it was the appetizer, it was too much for me and I was almost half full. It might be the case while taking the first bite, you won't like it but later on, it will grow on you- 3.5/5 * Kashmiri Machli- not sure why they serve regular Salmon and no, I do not think it was anywhere near to Kashmiri preparation - it was disappointing - 2.5/5 * Dhaniwal Murgh- Oridinary item, okish- 3/5 * Kahsmiri boti: Marinated lamb, think about mutton steak - the highlight of the meal, medium rare - amazing- 4/5 * Kasoor Halwa (Green apple halwa) and Anjeer icecream in desserts - it was good The overall meal was not too great for us except Kashmiri boti... I gave him feedback (being a reviewer, this is something I contribute towards all business, doesn't matter how big or small the establishment is) they served mango cheesecake as a complementary item for our anniversary. Owner Avtar Walia also came and asked their courtesy question - 'is everything alright" and congratulated us on our anniversary. Meat -- especially lamb -- is both sculptural and tender. Price: $35 PP with tax Ambiance: As mentioned above, Dramatic ceiling-high windows face Hudson and Franklin Streets, adding drama to dining at Tamarind, and L-shaped banquette seating in low booths can be found around many of the windows. overall experience - 3.5/5 but with great ambiance, and top-notch service, I will give it 4 out of 5 ratings. Tamarind is a great place and I highly recommend it, if you want to go to an elegant Indian place.
I've been wanting to try this fancy, upscale Indian restaurant for awhile. I finally had the chance to enjoy Restaurant Week lunch ($45) here over the summer. I also came for Executive Lunch Special ($35) a few weeks later. The interior is lovely and spacious, with tables covered in white table cloth, pretty lights, little candles, flowers and greenery. I tried the Pomegranate Lassi because I had never seen that before. It was light, refreshing, creamy and thick. For the Restaurant Week lunch, we had 1 appetizer, 2 entree options, along with Saffron Biryani rice, vegetable of the day, Sesame Naan, and dessert. The appetizer I selected was Crab Nazakat, which was crab meat in coconut milk, garlic, lime juice, curry leaves, and mustard seed. This was unique and tasty, delightfully tender, full of delicate flavor. For my main dishes, I ordered the Amritsari Machali, which consisted of Tandoori salmon in hung yogurt, mustard, tandoori spices. The salmon was cooked perfectly, slightly crispy and charred, nicely flaky. The Lamb Pasanda was made with cashew sauce, onion, yogurt, as well as cream. This was rich and well seasoned. The vegetable was potatoes + peas in curry sauce, which were wonderfully soft and yummy spices shone through. The saffron rice was fragrant and aromatic. The naan was pretty good, but would've been better if served warm. Dessert was Chocolate Burfi, which was different and not my favorite. There was a shortbread cookie base with chocolate and it had a sort of weird chalky consistency. The Executive Lunch Special included an appetizer, 2 options from the main courses, Coconut Rice, Vegetable of the day, Karive Naan, and dessert of course. For my appetizer, I had the Kozhippdi Chicken, cooked in coconut oil with curry leaves, cardamom, cumin. I'm normally not very impressed by chicken, but this was so yummy! The sauce was savory and very flavorful. The main dishes I selected were Fish Surka and Lamb Kurumula. The fish was made with mustard, fenugreek, ginger, curry leaves, coconut vinegar. The fish was succulent, flaky and had layers of flavor. The lamb included coriander, garam masala, pepper, coconut, curry leaves, mustard seeds. Coconut rice was mouthwatering with true coconut taste. Vegetable was chickpea with Indian cheese. It was very hearty and flavorful. Naan was fluffy and thick. For dessert, we shared both the Banana fritters with ice cream and Pomegranate rice pudding. I enjoyed the Banana fritters more, which were beautifully crispy with just the right amount of sweetness. Service was solid throughout. The servers are welcoming, knowledgeable about the menu, and on top of it. Prices are on par with the Tribeca area. I would definitely like to return at some point to try the Tamarind Seafood or Mixed Grill Platter.
